Asin still looking for her ‘Jolly’
With only a few weeks to go for the release of the much-anticipated Housefull 2, one member of the cast who is calm as ever is Asin.
The star is, after all, an old pro in the game courtesy to her long-standing career down South and two `100-crore Bollywood biggies — Ready and Ghajini — in her kitty. Asin is as bubbly as ever and one wonders if this is also due to the fact that director Sajid Khan decided to open the promo of Housefull 2 with her despite many other stars in the film.
“I don’t think so; these are actually very minor things. I don’t over-analyse things,” smiles the star who will be seen after a gap of almost a year since Ready. “After all, this is a multi-starrer and there are so many prominent stars in the film. Then there are also legendary actors like Rishiji, Mithunji and Randhirji, so their presence has to be respected.”
She is particularly happy about the fact that no one missed out on his or her space despite the movie being a crowded affair. “I totally give kudos to the director. It is obviously Sajid’s way of telling the story to the audience with utmost conviction so that all of us are presented well despite such a crowd,” she smiles.
However, the fact remains that each of her earlier three films were solo starrers. While she was the main leading lady opposite Aamir Khan in Ghajini, Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn in London Dreams and Salman Khan in Ready, this will be the first time she will be sharing screen space with other pairs like John Abraham-Jacqueline Fernandez, Riteish Deshmukh-Zareen Khan and Shreyas Talpade-Shazahn Padamsee.
“See, I am the lead with Akshay Kumar and was content with the narration given to me and the character assigned to me. I had clarity from the very beginning about what I was doing in the film and nothing has changed in the final cut. There is no insecurity whatsoever,” she clarifies.
Asin also says that at this point of her career, which is flying, she wants to concentrate on hard core commercial entertainers. “Well, though I would love to do different kind of films, at this point in time and stage of my career, I would love to work in commercial cinema. Thankfully, even in such films I am getting roles that have the scope for performance as well,” she says, adding, “I guess currently I am happy to be a part of such films that reach out to every nook and corner of the country and connect with a larger section of audience.”
But what about “connecting” in real life, we ask. Laughs Asin, “I haven’t found my own ‘Jolly’ (the leading men in Housefull 2 are all named ‘Jolly’) yet. Just like the fathers in Housefull 2 who are trying to get the right Jolly for their daughters, maybe there would be someone out there for me as well.”
