Parinayam to open Soorya theatre fest
The 2010 Soorya Theatre Festival is scheduled from October 11 to October 20 in Thiruvananthapuram. Parinayam, scripted by M.T. Vasudevan Nair and directed by Soorya Krishnamoorthy, opens the festival on gender equality.
Marmmaram, another production of Krishnamoorthy, will be staged on October 12, highlighting the lost human values.
Day three will have a solo act from Actlab Thrissoor and a children’s play from Floating Theatre, Kozhikodu.
Winner of the 2010 State Amateur Drama Festival of Kerala Sangeeta Nataka Akademi, Yakshikadhayum Nattuvarthamanavum, will open the show on October 14. Based on the short story by Paul Zacharia, Salam America, a solo act by Vijayakumar will entertain theatre buffs with its humour and wit on the same day.
October 15 has a lot in store with three plays scheduled, starting with Thazhvarayile Pattu, a Malayalam version of Athol Fugard’s one-act play about love and generation differences between an old man and his granddaughter. Oru Thengal and Etho Chirakadiyochakal are two other productions planned for the day.
Bommanahalliyile Kinnara Yogi, written, designed and directed by famous director Chandradasan, enacted by children of Mazhavillu, the children’s theatre group of Lokadharmi Kochi, will be showcased on October 16. The play is based on the beautiful and imaginative adaptation of Robert Browning’s The Pied Piper of Hamelin by the Kannada poet Kuvempu.
Thirty two children will participate in this musical spectacle with their energetic movements enjoying every moment on stage, singing, dancing, enacting with lot of fun, wit, satire, humour, histrionics and mischief.
Vietnam Veedu, Avanavan Kadamba, Makkalkoottam are scheduled for October 17, 18 and 19 respectively.
The festival will conclude with the play Nritham, directed by M. Vinod and N. Binod, portraying the saga of a traditional Kalari exponent after he had been lured by the European market for contemporary dance.
With the festive season beginning next month, nationwide shows of Ramleela will begin.
Based on the chaos of amateur Ramleela events, a musical satire Ravanleela, directed by Om Katare will be staged on Sunday at Mumbai’s Mysore Auditorium.
The backdrop of Ramleela set in a village with restless audience opens the show. But Raavan has not got his act together as the makeup man has not turned up and begs to be excused.
Raavan, out of rage, moves out and leaves the show, and the humorous journey of Ravanleela begins.
