2 held for firing at Pai
The city police claimed to have arrested two people, who allegedly opened two rounds of fire at the bulletproof car of industrialist and realtor Dr. P Dayanand Pai on the evening of October 17.
The arrested have been identified as Subhash Shikari, a resident of Banasawadi, and Santosh. The police said it was Shikari who opened fire on the car. Both were taken into police custody after producing before a magistrate.
Mr Pai was on his way to BMS College in Basavanagudi when two shots were fired on the driver’s side of his grey bullet-proof Bentley car with a Delhi registration number (DL 3F GA 7777). The incident took place between 6 and 6.05 pm.
The car was driven by Siddharaju and Mr Pai was sitting in the back seat of the car. The car moved towards National College in Basavangudi and as it passed through the flyover on Vani Villas Road, two rounds were fired at his car.
One bullet was shot aiming at the driver, towards the right side of the windshield, while other was shot at the rear windshield of the car. Mr. Pai was sitting on the left side of the back seat. Since the car was bullet proof, both driver and Mr. Pai escaped unhurt. The incident took place near the Girias’s store in Basavangudi.
When the incident took place, Mr. Pai and his driver thought that some stones had been pelted at the car and they came out to take a look. They realized then that they were bullet shots.
After the attack, a man claiming to be rowdy Hebbet Manja called local television news channels and claimed responsibility. He said the attack was over a piece of land in Devanahalli.
The Central Crime Branch sleuths investigated the case.
