81-year-old woman found murdered in RPC Layout

The 81-year-old wife of a retired Transport Joint Commissioner, Mr S. Venugopal, was found murdered with her hands and legs tied and mouth gagged at her residence, opposite the Bunts Sangha premises, in RPC Layout on Monday morning. The deceased, Prema Naidu, was also the cousin of Mr. Ramesh Babu, the high court security ACP.

Police sources said a gold chain Ms Naidu was wearing has gone missing. The killers have searched for certain documents inside the alimrah which could be related to a commercial property worth around Rs 10 crore. It is a 4,000 sqft commercial property that belonged to her. She and her husband have made a will stating that the property should go to their foster son Satish (32) after their death, and should be passed on to the Ramakrishna Mutt after him, they added.

The police suspect the murder might have taken place on Sunday night. The murderers have strangled her to death using a sofa cover. She was living alone in her residence. The incident came to light on Monday morning when her maid servant Gouramma came to her house. When she did not get any response from inside the house, she alerted Ms Naidu’s relatives, who stay at the outhouse. Her relative Mr Murali peeped through the window and found her dead on the floor.

Mr. Ramesh noticed that the main door of the house was pulled from out and latched. He alerted the jurisdictional Vijayanagar police. Talking about his cousin, Mr Ramesh told “I am not sure whether the criminals have murdered her for gain; the gold bangles in her hands were intact. They have riffled through the almirah, but I am not sure whether they have taken anything. Most of her valuables have been kept in the bank locker. She only had her daily use ornaments in the house.

DCP Siddaramaiah said, “The motive is not known yet. We are not sure if any valuables are missing. Going by circumstantial evidence, the murderers have not entered the house forcibly. This could indicate that the murders were known to the victim.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
