Adugodi SI trapped while taking bribe
A police sub-inspector, attached to the Adugodi police station, was trapped by the Lokayukta police on Thursday while accepting a bribe to release a teenager (name withheld).
The police said Sub-Inspector Shivamada had kept the suspect in illegal custody in a theft case and demanded a bribe to release him.
The boy’s older brother Sheik Abdulla, approached the Lokayukta police on Thursday. “He said the Adugodi police had taken his younger brother to the station to interrogate him in a theft case.
After keeping him for two days, the SI demanded Rs 20,000 to release him. The police had not registered any case and no evidence was found against him either,’’ a Lokayukta police officer said.
Shivamada agreed for Rs 15,000 and asked Abdulla to get the money. On Friday, the SI did not receive the money, but asked his agent, Tajuddin, to collect the cash. The Lokayukta police arrested both Tajuddin and the SI.
