Ashada, new hurdle for delayed BBMP budget
The BBMP budget, already delayed by at least three months, will not be presented for another month during the Ashada (inauspicious) period beginning June 11, according to sources. But it is reportedly being drawn up with the coming assembly elections in mind.
While BBMP officers have prepared a draft budget with an outlay of nearly Rs 8,000 crore and submitted it for review to its taxation and finance committee, it could be inflated on instructions from district in-charge minister, R. Ashok, say sources.
A decision to present an inflated budget and not go by the realistic draft prepared in view of the coming elections was reportedly taken at a meeting held by the minister with mayor D. Venkatesh Murthy, taxation and finance committee chairman, K. A. Munindra Kumar and other officers .
The draft budget has suggested that only projects which are already in progress should be carried forward, while others which have not yet been given a job code and number be ignored for the time being.
It has also not come out with any new major projects , focusing only on those considered essential for the city, say sources.
