BBMP promises it will rid city of festival waste

Despite the city’s garbage problems, the BBMP says it can handle disposal of waste generated in the light the various festivals, particularly animal waste, claiming it has made the necessary arrangements for decentralised bio-composting.

Areas like Pulakeshi Nagar and Shivajinagar have generated tons of animal waste. On Sunday morning, BBMP chief Rajneesh Goel visited these areas and made sure that waste was collected and buried in accordance with the BBMP’s plan of action.

“We have identified some government land in Pulakeshinagar as well as in Shivajinagar. I was amazed at the amount of waste that was generated. However, my entire team has done a good job and made sure all the waste was collected in time. Pits have been dug in the open government lands and the collected animal waste will be buried in them,” Mr Goel said. Right now, segregation of garbage has taken a back seat as the BBMP is focusing more on making sure that no festival garbage is left unattended.

Once the festive season is over the BBMP will get back to the segregation of garbage from source rule, said Mr Goel.

The BBMP has also made sure that they cleared the garbage that was piled up near Freedom Park and was not sent to the Mandur landfill earlier.
