Bidari asks Naxals to give up arms
State police chief Mr Shankar M. Bidari has promised rehabilitation of Naxals who are active at Chikmagalur, Udupi, Agumbe and Dakshina Kannada districts if they surrender along with their weapons.
“Discussions have been held with supporters of the Naxals and the message has already reached their hideouts. If the Naxals are willing to surrender, they should send their names through the well-wishers. Once the list reaches me, arrangements about where and when they can surrender will be made within 24 hours. Combing operations will be stopped for three days at the places where the Naxals want to surrender”, said Mr Bidari.
“The government’s Naxal package will be given to those who surrender and ample security will be provided. Even the government wants the Naxals to join the mainstream of society and lead a normal life, he added.
Naxal package
* The package includes cash reward Rs 2 lakh. Training fund of Rs 2,000 per month to skilled workers.
* Rs 15,000 for every AK 47, 56 and 74 that are surrendered. Rs 25,000 for every high-intensive explosives, Rs 10,000 for every satellite phone returned and Rs 3,000 per pistol or revolver.
* Rs 3,000 for each remote controlled weapon.
* Rs 500 per grenade, hand grenade and stick grenade.
