Bigger role in offing for Suvarna Soudha
The government is reportedly considering shifting some of its offices from the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru to the Suvarna Soudha in Belgaum and could take a decision after the joint session of the state legislature to be held here on October 11. Some offices of the revenue department, presently located in the Deputy Commissioner's office could also be moved to Suvarna Soudha, say sources. The government may seek a report from the district administration on the feasibility of shifting these offices to Suvarana Soudha, as some senior officials believe it will be hard for people to travel 8 kms from the city to get their work done, according to them.
Speaker of the state Assembly, K.G. Bhopaiah, meanwhile, reveals the government will soon make an official announcement, naming Suvarna Soudha , Suvarna Vidhan Soudha. “Several top leaders from Belgaum including former minister, Basavaraj Raireddy have suggested the new name and the government has accepted it,'' Mr Bhopaiah adds. Urban development minister, Suresh Kumar says the inaugural function of the Suvarna Soudha will be held on the lines of the function organised to mark the 60th anniversary of the Vidhan Soudha in Bengaluru. "Most VIPs and politicians, including former Chief Ministers and MPs will be part of the function and over one lakh people from different parts of the state are likely to attend," he adds.
