BJP gives CEC reason to BSY, keeps him waiting
Wait till CEC hearing in the Supreme Court, is the message sent by the BJP central leadership to former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, who has been waiting eagerly to reclaim the gaddi for the last seven months. Party national general secretary, in charge of Karnataka, Dharmendra Pradhan, told Mr Yeddyurappa in a closed-door meeting that party central leaders were holding consultations over the issue. “After the CEC hearing, the party will take a decision in your favour,” Mr Pradhan told the Lingayat leader during the meeting at the latter’s Race Course Road residence, party sources said. But Mr Pradhan was stern when he told Mr Yeddyurappa that statements issued by his supporters were harming party’s interests and they should be reined in.
Before holding discussions with the former Chief Minister, Mr. Pradhan met Rural Development and Panchayat Raj minister Jagadish Shettar at the party office in Malleshwaram. During the 20-minute meeting, Mr Shettar told Mr Pradhan that Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda and party state President K.S. Eshwarappa were not consulting him while taking administrative decisions.
Stopping short of asking for a change in leadership, Mr Shettar hinted Mr Gowda has failed to take party MLAs and ministers into confidence. Mr Pradhan told him to focus on relief works in northern parts of the state, which have been reeling under drought, and to work with the chief minister to bring succour to the affected. Soon after the meeting, Mr Shettar left for Gulbarga, one of the drought-affected districts, the sources said.
Mr Pradhan asked Mr Shettar to convince Mr. Yeddyurappa to attend party functions and decision-making meetings. Later, Mr Shettar met Mr Yeddyurappa and briefed him about the stand taken by the high command. Despite Mr Pradhan’s visit, both Mr Gowda and Party state Eshwarappa were away from the city. But they are likely to meet him on Monday.
