Bonanza on track for state: Muniyappa

People of Karnataka have more reason to celebrate than complain about the 2 paise-a-km hike in fares, as several new trains — 10 to link new destinations and seven on extended networks — will be flagged off this year, says minister of state for railways K.H. Muniyappa.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle on proposals listed in the Railway budget, the minister said that among new line projects with cost-sharing by state government which have been submitted to the Planning Commission for approval include Gadag-Haveri, Gadag-Wadi, Chikballapur-Puttaparthy and Srinivasapura-Madanapalli.

Mr Muniyappa said Bengaluru would benefit for the ministry’s decision to establish a disaster management training centre. “The railways must possess modern, well-trained and equipped disaster management machinery. The rescue and relief teams for the accident sites need specialised training centre where they can be engaged in hands on drills,” sources in the ministry of railways, said about the new facility.
Besides, the railways would contribute 72 MW of power generated by wind mills planned to be set up on its land in Karnataka.
