Bring Cong to power for good governance: SMK
Targeting the ruling BJP for the corruption in its ranks, external affairs minister, S.M. Krishna appealed to the people on Wednesday to bring the Congress back to power in the state in the next assembly elections in the interest of good governance. Addressing a gathering in Tumkur , he said only the Congress could be depended on to work for the welfare of all sections of society.
Urging people to compare the record of past Congress governments which had worked for their good and the ‘corrupt’ BJP government, he said it was left to them to give their verdict during the next assembly elections. Claiming that the BJP high command did not act swiftly enough against tainted ministers in Karnataka, Mr Krishna maintained the Congress did not hesitate in taking action against its partymen who were involved in illegal activities. He also accused the BJP government of faiing to tackle the drought in the state .
Rajya Sabha member, A. R. Rahman Khan, in his speech, lambasted JDS state president H. D. Kumaraswamy and, its supremo, H. D. Deve Gowda for holding a ‘Muslim Convention' only to poach the minority votes of the Congress in the next assembly elections. “People know how the Congress has served the minorities. We gave a lot of importance to minorities during the tenure of S. M. Krishna as Chief Ministr in 1999, but this cannot be said of either the JDS or BJP governments,” he said, adding that the JDS was responsible for bringing the BJP to power in the state.
