BSY move to quit matter of concern
Reacting cautiously to Lingayat strongman B.S. Yeddyurappa's move to launch Karnataka Janata Party, BJP leader and L.K. Advani's former aide Sudheendra Kulkarni said it was certainly ‘a matter of concern’ and the party was looking into the matter.
Speaking at a Meet the Press Programme here, Mr Kulkarni said BJP was aware that his contribution to building the party in Karnataka was enormous. "We were a marginal force some years ago. Senior leaders agree that Mr Yeddyurappa is an important leader who strove hard to build the party. His decision to form a new outfit has not made anyone happy," he said.
Stressing the need for promoting confidence among voters, Mr Kulkarni said the BJP was voted to power in Karnataka with a lot of expectation but the party had not been able to live up to the hopes reposed in it. "Many mistakes have happened. We need to set them right but it will take some time," he said in response to a question.
Talking about his new book - Music of the spinning wheel - Mr Kulkarni remarked that politics and business have lost their moral quotient. "All parties have failed to promote leadership from the grassroots. This is one of the principle reasons for confrontation at all levels. Parties need to choose their leaders carefully and must select wise and benevolent people to important posts," Mr Kulkarni said.
