B.Tech colleges block checks
After the court decision over the inspection of engineering colleges by task forces constituted by the government, the managements of over 300 engineering colleges have successfully lobbied with the government to defer inspections indefinitely. The managements have been fighting tooth and nail to stop the inspections. These inspections would check whether the colleges were maintaining academic standards and complying with AICTE norms.
The managements even approached the HC and the SC, challenging the government orders to ins-pect engineering colleges. However, the HC had recently permitted task forces to inspect colleges, while the case in the SC is expected to be heard soon. Meanwhile, some managements approached the CM seeking time to face inspections. Their tactics worked and the government agreed to give them time to rectify deficiencies. The department of technical education has asked all the 689 private engineering colleges to upload details about faculty, infrastructure and pay scales by September-end to enable the teams to verify their claims.
However, only 348 colleges have uploaded details before the deadline, while 341 colleges ignored the directives. But commissioner of technical education Ajay Jain said that inspections will not be halted and that task forces have started their job from Wednesday. But, managements claimed that the government has agreed to defer inspections indefinitely.
