Bus ride turns horror trip for DPS school kids, 20 injured
Twenty children of Delhi Public School (DPS) South Bangalore miraculously escaped with minor injuries after the school bus in which they were traveling toppled on Friday morning after a BMTC bus rammed into it near N.R. Circle.
According to police, a few students had got into the bus at Magadi Road and the vehicle was heading towards Shantinagar junction via OTC Road. The BMTC bus, heading from Hudson Circle to Town Hall, suddenly rammed into the school bus after the driver lost control of the vehicle.
Thankfully, a few police constables, who were present at the spot, immediately came to the rescue of the children and the bus driver. They immediately broke open the bus door and shifted the students and the driver to a hospital nearby. Passersby also helped the police shift the injured to hospital.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, the Casualty Medical Officer at Sindhi Hospital said, “Around 8.15 am, around 20 schoolkids were rushed to our hospital in a police ambulance after the school bus met with an accident. We examined all the students.
There were no major injuries, they have sustained only simple abrasions. Of the 20, only 4-5 students had mild scratches on their nose and hand. They were treated as out-patients and all necessary treatment was provided. Since the children had their parents’ names and contact number on their school ID, we called up the parents and handed the children over to them”, he added.
Mansoor Ali Khan, a member of the DPS board of management, said all children are safe and healthy. “There were 20 students on board. We have lodged a complaint against the BMTC driver”, he said. The Ulsoor Gate traffic police have registered a case against the BMTC bus driver.
