BWSSB issues over 10K applications
BWSSB has issued 10,100 applications for water and sanitary connections in two days of Sajala camps in new areas of the BBMP, which will get piped water once the latest Cauvery project is commissioned. Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar announced last week that the project will be partially commissioned by this month-end, while full commissioning will happen in November. Apart from giving new connections, the BWSSB is focussing on regularising existing connections in these areas. Some of the residences here have BWSSB connections, but get water once in seven to 15 days.
Now that the BWSSB will begin regular water supply to these areas, the Board is trying to convince the residents to get authorised connections in every household. After the BWSSB received poor response from the people, it recently launched Sajala – a drive to encourage prospective consumers in these areas to get water and sanitary connections.
The BWSSB is holding camps in the erstwhile TMC and CMC areas that would receive water under the Cauvery Water Supply Scheme Stage IV Phase II by September-end. BWSSB officers and staff will be present in the camp to issue application forms, which cost Rs 100. The consumers will be given a handbook titled Sajala, which contains all details on getting a new connection, tariff structure etc. The officials will explain to prospective consumers the benefits of having a legal water connection. “Once applicants submit filled in applications with the fees, we will sanction the connection in a week. Commissioning of the project is expected to be this month end. Regular supply of water will take another month,” a BWSSB official said.
