CBI court says no to Reddy’s bail plea
The CBI court on Wednesday dismissed the bail pleas of former minister and mining baron G. Janardhana Reddy, his personal assistant Mehfuz Ali Khan and three others arrested in the Associated Mining Company (AMC) case.
The CBI special court judge B.M. Angadi dismissed the petitions on the ground that the accused had committed an economic offence of ‘serious magnitude affecting the economy of the country’.
The court also dismissed the bail applications filed by the then DCF, Bellary, Muthaiah, Range Forest Officer (RFO) Mahesh Patil and the then deputy director of Mines and Geology department, S.P. Raju.
In the order, the court said as the matter was under investigation, the possibility of the accused tampering with evidence or threatening witnesses cannot be ruled out. The judge adjourned the case to June 5.
