City records another suspected dengue death
Even as the BBMP got into action mode to prevent the spread of dengue, the city registered yet another death due to suspected dengue on Sunday. The victim, 6-year- old Trupthi E, resident of Anekal is said to have died of suspected dengue at Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health (IGICH), but hospital director Dr M.L. Siddaraju did not confirm the same. She was admitted to IGICH four days ago, who was shifted from a private nursing home.
Meanwhile, in a bid to prevent the spread of dengue, which has already claimed seven lives in the last eight days, the BBMP is intensifying its survey of mosquito larvae across the city starting from Monday. Large deposits of mosquito larvae found around water collection sites has been the chief cause of dengue fever around the most affected areas like D.J. Halli, Tannery Road, Kavalbyrasandra, Kadugondanahalli and Nagavara, Ejipura and around Austin Town.
“Residents store water in big tanks inside their houses in the open for long and this becomes breeding ground for mosquitoes. Besides, rain water collected along the roadside and aisles add to the problem”, said Dr Lokesh, BBMP’s Project Director for dengue and chikungunya control. “It is not just the authorities that are to be blamed for the rise in dengue-related deaths. Even the public has to be more cautious in keeping their surroundings clean. Besides, we are creating awareness about dengue through door-to-door campaign. We will be covering 20 lakh houses in 198 wards”, he added.
