'Cops still hound me'
Two years after the murder of Dell employee Payal Surekha (29) on December 17, 2010, which had shocked residents of JP Nagar, her husband Ananth Narayan Mishra, who was initially a suspect till the JP Nagar police arrested the accused James Kumar Roy, is still being hounded by police officials who went and met him at his home town recently.
Speaking from his home town Cuttack, Orissa, Ananth said he feels his life is under threat as he under threat as he is constantly getting calls from unknown numbers asking him to come to Bengaluru and give his statement. Even though the callers claim to be cops, Ananth says there are procedures to be fol lowed if his statement is required at this juncture.
“Both my parents were DySPs and I know for a fact that policemen have to send certain requests in the form of applications before calling any person to record his/her state ments. The worst was when a team of three Central Crime Branch policemen came to our house in Cuttack recently to interrogate me without any notice. This was uncalled for. The way the policemen landed at my house seemed as if I am an accused in the murder of my wife. Later, they left after taking some state ments which I had given immediately after my wife's murder,“ Ananth claimed.
“Within days, I started getting calls asking me to come and give my statement. I am aware that Close User Group (CUG) connection is provided to all officers across cers across Karnataka, which begins from 948080. But the calls made to me are from different numbers. Going by this, it is hard to believe if the callers are genuine police officials. I have requested the callers to send the mandatory authorization letter. Even now, I am ready to co-operate with any kind of investigations, but on condition that it should be legal. I will correspond with the DCP (Crime) who is said to be supervising the investigations“, he added.
