Cops want blood samples of Suja, baby

The Bengaluru police, following an inconclusive report on French Consulate official Pascal Mazurier’s DNA report, are gearing for another round of tests on the foreign national, who has been accused of raping his three-and-a-half-year old daughter.
But this time, the police also want to collect the blood sample of Mr Mazurier’s wife Suja Jones, who filed the police complaint against her husband.
Senior advocate Pramila Nesargi, counsel for Suja Jones, has, however, said that the police cannot take the blood samples of her client as it is a violation of human rights.
A highly-placed source in the police department said, “As there were a few loopholes in Mr Mazurier’s DNA report, the police want to rule out a few possibilities that could hamper the investigation and hence require blood samples of the mother too. The police have taken permission from the High Court to collect blood samples from Mr Mazurier’s wife and their daughter.”
But it is not known when the samples will be collected from Suja and the minor victim. “Suja has to agree to the police request. Unless she agrees, the samples cannot be collected,” the officer said.
“When the police approached it, the court first asked them to take permission from Suja. I have advised Suja not to agree to give blood samples as there is no need for it. They (the police) cannot compel my client as it is a violation of human rights,” Ms Nesargi said.
Mr Mazurier, Deputy Head of Chancery in the Consulate of France here, was arrested on June 19 after Suja Jones filed a police complaint, alleging that he had raped their daughter. Mr Mazurier is in judicial custody and his bail petition has been adjourned to July 23 by a fast-track court.
