Council polls a must-win battle for Cong chief

The Legislative Council polls are sure to be a litmus test for both the Congress state unit and KPCC president Dr Parameshwar especially, at a time when his leadership abilities are being questioned by none other than Opposition leader Siddaramaiah. The Congress record in the Graduates’ and Teachers’ constituency polls has not been too good with the BJP succeeding in wooing the educated voter with its `party with an ideology’ tag.

“It has become a prestige issue for the Congress to win these seats. Even if we win three of six Graduates’ and Teachers’ constituency seats, it will be an achievement, because Congress has never appealed to this category of voters. I want party workers to change this trend and expose the BJP and its scandals before the voters,” said Dr Parameshwar, while giving calling on workers to ensure the victory of Ramoji Gowda, the Bangalore Graduates’ Constituency candidate.

“Announcing the Congress candidate for the polls eight months in advance was part of our strategy to win it. This helped the candidate enroll more voters and get in touch with them. I congratulate Ramoji for enrolling 36,000 of the 1.10 lakh registered voters,” said the KPCC chief. “The MLC poll results will be an indicator for the Assembly elections. Educated voters are disillusioned with BJP, whose candidate, Ramachandra Gowda is tainted,” said KPCC general secretary Basavaraja Raya Reddy.
