Day after inspection, the garbage is back
A day after BBMP Commissioner Rajneesh Goel and Mayor D. Venkatesh Murthy went around the city to inspect the garbage collection drive, waste is back on street corners and empty sites.
Mounds of waste were found in Indiranagar, HAL, New Tippasandra, Shivajinagar and Banasawadi, areas that fall under East Bengaluru, and it was no different in West and Central Bengaluru. The biggest eyesore, probably, was the garbage piled high right in front of the Dharmaraya Temple.
“On Friday, most city roads were cleaned as Mr Goel and Mr Murthy were going on an inspection. Just a day later, the BBMP stands exposed. There is garbage everywhere today (Saturday),” said Mukhesh Jain, a trader.
Mr. Murthy, however, said that garbage collection was hit on Friday evening as rain hit the city.
“Over 60 garbage trucks could not unload at the Mandur landfill on Friday night. It is difficult for these trucks to operate near the landfill when it rains,” he said. The Mayor said problems at garbage landfills have been resolved and waste in the city would be cleared soon.
