Day of reckoning here for BSY, BJP
Karnataka’s beleagured BJP government is collectively holding its breath as the pro-B.S. Yeddyurappa camp and his detractors in Chief Minister Sadananda Gowda-state party chief K.S. Eshwarappa’s faction brace for Friday’s Supreme Court verdict on the CEC’s recommendation to order a CBI probe into the illegal gratification charges against the former chief minister.
The expected court verdict will either end or resurrect the fortunes of the former CM, briefly admitted to M.S. Ramaiah hospital on Wednesday night after he complained of exhaustion. BSY’s plans to up the ante against his protégé turned detractor gathered strength after 19 more legislators signed the letter on Thursday demanding a BJP legilsative party meet. Together with the 19 who signed the petition on Wednesday and the 11 MPs, from the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha, who signed the letter on Thursday, the total number of supporters is now 49. Legislators Appachhu Ranjan and Sanjay Patil may have hedged their bets in a bid to remain in BSY’s good books while not upsetting BJP bigwigs.
