Deer hit by 2 vehicles on NICE Road, dies
A spotted deer was killed in a road accident after it was hit by two vehicles on NICE Road on Sunday morning. The incident occurred on Mysore Road-NICE Link Road intersection near Kengeri when a male spotted deer sprinted across the road. It was first hit by a vehicle and the deer ran towards the NICE Road. After 10 minutes, the deer once again ran across the road and was hit by another vehicle and died.Officials of the Urban Forest Division, who booked a case, said they have informed the police to track the vehicles which ran over the deer.
The deer might have come from the nearby Turahalli state forest or the wooded areas along the Mysore-Bannerghatta Road, they said. Kaggalipura Range Forest Officer M. Nagaraj said an autopsy was conducted on the deer carcass and was burnt in the nearby forest. “There is animal movement around NICE Link Road since, at many places, the road cuts across the forests. At Kaggalipura, the NICE Road runs along the foraging ground of leopards. The leopards are free-moving animals and end up running into human habitations in search of food,” the officer said. Last year two leopards were killed on NICE Link Road near Kaggalipura. Post two deaths of panthers the NICE authorities had erected the wildlife crossing cautionary sign on the Link Road.
