Don’t blame me for Moksha’s death: Central Excise officer
They represented the state hockey team and were staying together at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) campus in Bengaluru. When Jeeth Kalappa wanted to share the accommodation at the Central Government Quarters in BTM I Stage, Nithin Nachappa, a Central Excise employee, could not say no.
Jeeth, who works for Accenture, was staying with Nithin for the last three months. Jeeth had got his friend Moksha Nanaiah home when Nithin was not around. On Saturday night, Moksha fell from the third floor quarters and died. Now, Nithin has approached the police to clear his name in the death of Moksha, saying that he was not around when the tragedy occurred. Sources in the police department said the central excise commissioner has sought a report from Nithin on Moksha’s death. Moksha, who was an analyst at a bank, had come to meet Jeeth on Saturday evening and the two were allegedly drunk.
They went to the terrace of the second floor apartment. While Moksha was trying get down from the terrace with the help of a ladder, she slipped and crashed to the ground. She died on the spot. In his statement to the police, Nithin has said he was not aware of the friendship between Jeeth and Moksha and had seen them together once.
When agreeing to share the accommodation, Nithin had asked Jeeth not to get anyone else to the quarters in his absence. Along with his police statement, Nithin has also submitted two reports to the central excise commissioner. In the first report, Nithin has stated that he was not present at the house when the incident took place as he was away in Mysore to see his bedridden mother. He has also mentioned that Jeeth was staying with him for the last three months and was looking for an accommodation.
The second letter is by Jeeth, in which he says Nithin has nothing to do with the case and he is innocent. He also admits to his mistake of getting Moksha to the quarters when Nithin was not around. Nithin has been working as a personal assistant to a senior official in the customs department in Bengaluru for the last two years, and was staying in the quarters. Moksha’s brother Aiyappa, who has filed a police complaint, has not blamed anyone for the incident. He has not made any allegation against Jeeth. As no one has been accused of any wrongdoing in Moksha’s death, no action will be taken either against Jeeth or Nithin, said ACP, Madiwala sub-division, Subanna, said.
