Ever heard of a man demanding dowry from his wife if she delivered a baby girl?! Umar Farook, a resident of Kushalnagar, who works as a car painter, demanded Rs 1 lakh from his wife if she delivered a baby girl.

His wife Reshma Bhanu delivered a girl child in the first week of February. In the fight that ensued between the couple, the kid has been left battling for life after she was beaten by her cruel father. The baby is now undergoing treatment at Vani Vilas Hospital. The K.G. Halli police, who are on the lookout for Umar Farook, said his wife Reshma had filed a dowry harassment case against him and also accused him of trying to kill their two-month-old daughter when she refused to give him the dowry he had demanded.

Reshma, in her complaint filed on Sunday, has stated that Umar had demanded her to bring Rs 1 lakh if she delivered a baby girl. The couple was married in December 2010 and she gave birth to baby girl in February. Umar repeatedly abused her for giving birth to a girl child and kept forcing her to get Rs 1 lakh from her parents’ home, police said.

On Friday, the baby had to pay the price for the discord between her parents. Reshma was breast-feeding her daughter when the accused forcibly pulled the kid away from its mother and started beating her. Reshma, who shouted for help, rushed her daughter to Bowring Hospital with the help of her neighbours. Later, the child was referred to Vani Vilas Hospital where she is undergoing treatment.
