Drought funds not used properly, says Siddu
Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, Siddaramaiah, on Wednesday charged that the state government was boasting about the Rs 1 lakh crore budget without allocating a single rupee for scarcity-relief works.
Speaking to media persons on Wednesday, he said the Centre has released Rs 169 crore under the Calamity Relief Fund (CRF), but the state was yet to spend about Rs 131 crore of the funds. He said he was not aware of any move to lead a delegation to Delhi to seek additional funds.
Mr Siddaramaiah charged former CM B.S. Yeddyurappa with playing politics by undertaking tour of drought-hit districts. Why did Yeddyurappa, who is criticizing the tour of Congress leaders, not take part in the discussion on the drought in the recent session of the Assembly?, the Congress leader asked. The Centre had released Rs 1,685 crore to the state during the floods and Rs 439 crore was collected from philanthropists. The state has not given details on funds collected for construction of houses in flood affected areas, Mr Siddaramaiah alleged.
