To dub or not: Aamir series not in Kannada
People in Karnataka will not be able to watch the much-awaited TV serial — Satyamev Jayate by Bollywood star Amir Khan — in Kannada after the Karnataka Television Association turned down the request for the serial to be dubbed in the state language.
“If they telecast the dubbed serial it would hurt the regional sentiments of the people here. We had requested the producers to produce the entire series in Kannada and not dub it, because it would have an adverse effect on the language and would also open the floodgates of dubbed teleserials,” said President, Karnataka Television Association, Ravi Kiran. He added that people will, however, be able to watch the serial in other languages, including in its original Hindi.
The 13-episode teleserial is due for telecast on National Doordarshan channel and other regional channels in almost all regional languages, barring Kannada and Bengali, from Sunday May 6 at 11 am.” We have always resisted dubbing,” said Mr. Kiran, adding Kannada matinee idol late Dr Rajkumar was strictly opposed to dubbing.
