DVS, Shettar? Crisis unresolved
Has the storm blown over for the ruling BJP with central leaders indicating to the trio — Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, state unit president K S Eshwarappa and chief minister-aspirant Jagadish Shettar — that a decision on the leadership issue would be announced in a couple of days?
Or is another one waiting to happen with loyalists of former CM B.S. Yeddyurappa determined to secure the top post for Mr Shettar and the Sadananda Gowda camp trying its best to frustrate them? The top trio of the state BJP was told to return home to Bengaluru and await a word from New Delhi, but not before each of them got a earful from party president Nitin Gadkari for ‘childish’ behaviour during an extended meeting at his residence on Tuesday.
While some in the party indicated that the crucial decision would be taken only after the Presidential poll on July 19, others said the announcement could come later this week immediately after a meeting of the parliamentary board. A meeting of the board scheduled for this evening was postponed.
Supporters of rival camps led by Mr Yeddyurappa and Mr Sadananda Gowda were upbeat although Mr Shettar’s body language was seen to be grim. Sources close to the CM said that Mr Shettar received a setback over Mr Yeddyurappa’s secret meeting with the governor, H.R. Bhardwaj where BSY allegedly sought his help to ‘fight’ the CBI case, and explore whether the house could be dissolved and fresh polls called.
