DVS snubs BSY on drought report card

Chief Minister D. V. Sadananda Gowda let off some more barbs at his predecessor B. S. Yeddyurappa, saying his administration would accord priority to drought relief programmes than pay heed to advice and report cards of leaders. Speaking to media persons after visiting a few villages in this drought-prone district on Monday, he said the state government was doing its best to provide succor in scarcity-affected areas.

“My government is doing its best. So, I am aware of the drought situation in the state, and so there is no need for a few to politicizing the matter,” he retorted when asked whether the government would release Rs 200 crore for creation of employment opportunities in drought-hit areas, and sanction Rs 25 lakhs to drought prone areas for sinking borewells and other relief works, as suggested by former chief minister Mr Yeddyurappa.

On Mr Yeddyurappa's report card on the drought situation, he said, “If even common citizens give us such reports, I will accept and do my best”. He, however, hastened to add that the state government has formed committees to study the drought situation, and that he would strive to solve all problems triggered by the calamity. Mr Gowda said the Government has decided to take a delegation consisting of members of parties to meet Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and seek additional funds for scarcity-relief work later this month.Later, he chaired a review meeting in Chikkaballapur and instructed officers to take necessary measures to tackle the drought situation.
