‘Elder statesman’ BSY pleads for farmers
Former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa once again assumed the role of an elder statesman, advising Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar to sort out the anamolies pertaining to farm loan interest rates.
Intervening during a discussion on the subject in the Assembly on Tuesday, Mr Yeddyurappa suggested that Mr Shettar hold a meeting and find a solution to which the CM readily agreed. The issue was raised by JD(S) floor leader in the Assembly H.D. Revanna during zero hour, who claimed the co-operation department was levying different interest rates for loans obtained by farmers. He claimed that high interest rates were imposed on those who had obtained a loan in excess of `1 lakh. “Ideally, we should have no interest for loans upto ` 1 lakh. For loans between `1 lakh and 3 lakh, the interest should be 1 per cent.” he said
