Ex-MLA’s kin dies in car crash
A group of engineering students on their way to college were involved in a major accident in which the granddaughter of former MP R.S Patil, and former Davanagere MLA Shamanur Shivashankarappa, identified as Sushmita Patil (18), lost her life. Sushmita is the daughter of Rajendra Patil, a businessman, and Sudha Patil, who runs a textile showroom, and reside at Sadashivnagar.
Sushmita, along with three other friends - Namratha (19) of Lottegollahalli, Akhil (19) of R.T. Nagar and Anirudh (18) from Dollars Colony - all 2nd semester students of architecture at R.V. College of Engineering - were heading towards the Bangalore-Mysore highway on the NICE Corridor on their way to college in a car when the speeding vehicle skidded and toppled five times near Andharahalli bridge.
Sushmita, who sustained severe head injuries, died on the way to hospital her friends miraculously escaped with minor injuries.
Dr Sharan Shivraj Patil, chairman of Sparsh Hospital, who is Sushmita’s uncle said, “She did her schooling at Sophia High School and was a very bright student. She was more into academics and not much into other co-curricular activities. She is the younger of two siblings. Supriya is her elder sister”.
According to Tavarekere police, Akhil Arun has lodged a complaint against his classmate Anirudh, who was driving the car, under Sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence).
