Fans throng to watch ‘Anna Bond’, caned
The most-anticipated movie of the year, Anna Bond, starring Puneeth Rajkumar, Priyamani and Jackie Shroff, finally hit the screens across the state on Tuesday. Fans of Puneeth, who had gathered in large numbers at a theatre in Majestic area, were caned by the police when they protested against the tickets being sold out.
Almost all the theatres and multiplexes ran full house on the first day with prior bookings by diehard fans of Puneeth. Some theatres started the shows as early as 6.30 and 7 am. Despite the movie running to a full house, the Rs 12-crore budget movie by Vajreshwari Combines has nothing new to offer and can be rated average. But the effort put in by Puneeth stands out, while director Suri has failed to meet the expectations and hype surrounding the movie.
The police resorted to a mild lathi-charge to disperse the agitated crowd at Santosh theatre on Kempegowda Road on Tuesday morning. The fans were upset that the tickets for all the shows of Tuesday were sold on the previous day. Many of them turned up on Tuesday morning to buy the tickets at the counter and watch the movie.
The melee started when the police tried to send all those who did not have tickets for Tuesday’s show out of the theatre premises. A large number of policemen, who were stationed at the theatre, ensured that the movie was screened without a hitch. Those fans who had managed to lay their hands on the tickets celebrated by bursting crackers outside the theatre.
