Fence-sitters: How many are still with BSY camp?
With CM Sadananda Gowda’s letter bomb creating another crisis in the ruling BJP, the moot question now is whether beleaguered former CM B.S. Yeddyurappa will be able to hold on to his numbers?
Sources in the BSY camp admitted that the number of MLAs has dwindled particularly after reports came in of an impending Cabinet expansion. MLAs led by C.T. Ravi had begun a signature campaign for the expansion, which according to Mr Ravi, has been signed by as many as 76 of the 120 odd BJP MLAs. Yeddyurappa camp strategists suspect that many MLAs have shifted sides in the hope of getting a berth and pleasing the electorate with polls a year away.
Besides this, agriculture minister, Umesh Katti and Rajya Sabha MP, Prabhakar Kore are considering various options if the Supreme Court orders a CBI probe against BSY. Sources said they may not be averse to returning to the Congress. "These leaders are very strong in Belgaum. They belong to the Lingayat community, which would make their entry into the Congress easier with the party scouting for popular Lingayat leaders," sources explained.
