Fire at godown destroys goods worth lakhs

Ten fire tenders were pressed into service to extinguish an accidental fire at a cargo godown behind the satellite bus stand on Mysore Road in Byatarayanapura on Saturday. The fire broke out around 8 am at Manoj Cargo gift parcel centre located in Timber Layout. The firemen battled nearly for five hours to bring the fire under control. In the process, some of the fire personnel sustained minor injuries, police said.

The godown is spread over a half-acre area. Parcels, which had come from different parts of the country including electronic goods, clothes, stationery, furniture and other valuables were completely gutted. The cause of the fire and the extent of loss are yet to be ascertained. Byatarayanapura police have registered a case.
