Fire guts pharma unit

A major fire broke out at the organic unit of herbal drug major Himalaya in Makali on Tumkur Road in Nelamangala on Sunday. Goods worth Rs 5 lakh was gutted.

A Fire Department official, who was at the spot, said that the fire started around 9.30 am, and the fire officials were were alerted around 9.45 am.

Fire tenders from Peenya and Nelamangala fire stations were rushed to the spot. “There has been no loss of life or injuries, but goods worth over Rs 5 lakh was gutted. It took over one hour bring the fire under control,” he said.

The fire official said that the fire started due to an electrical short-circuit. A case has been registered with the Nelamangala police.

In another incident, a short-circuit caused a fire at a house near Vidyapeetha Circle in city that destroyed household goods. The loss is yet to be ascertained.
