Five held for RT Nagar ATM robbery
A month after the sensational robbery at R.T. Nagar where a SUV carrying Rs 1.87 crore was attacked by nearly 15 armed robbers, the North Division police have managed to nab five notorious dacoits involved in the robbery. Valuables including cash, gold ornaments and a Tavera SUV, all worth Rs 50 lakh, have been recovered.
The arrested are Fuzil Ahemed Sheik (26) of Mumbai, Karunakar alias Ravikanth Pujari of Hoskote, residing in Daman and Diu, Jay Prakash alias JP and Santosh Kumar alias Purushotam (37) from Dakshina Kannada and Mahesh (30) of Kodugu district. On May 14, CMS Securitas Limited had hired a private SUV (KA 03 C 2428) and four of its people, identified as Venkatesh, the driver of the car, Nemi Chandra, in charge of cash box, Anand Kumar, the security personnel, and Somanna Shetty, the gunman, went around to deposit money in the ATMs.
Around 14-15 masked men, who were following them in two cars, attacked them with deadly weapons. The accused managed to snatch the rifle from the gunman and escaped with it along with the cash.“Apart from Bengaluru, we looked for the accused in Hyderabad, Mumbai, Gujarat, Chennai and Daman. They had committed similar offences in other states and going by their past record, it was easy to nab them. They had met in Arthur Road jail in Mumbai during 2008- 2010 and were later released on bail. After coming out of prison, they hatched a plot to commit the offence in some other state and had planned this robbery for almost three months”, a senior police official.
