‘Friends’ stab 13-yr-old to death after he refuses to go for swim
A 13-year-old boy was stabbed to death by his minor friends over a petty quarrel near Hanumagiri Betta in Subramanyapura on Monday evening. The body of E. Abhishek, an eighth standard student at Ittamadu Government High School, was found with eight stab wounds near a church compound on Tuesday morning. The police rounded up four minors, who were Abhishek’s friends, but did not give the reason behind the crime.
Abhishek attended exams on Monday and had gone out to meet his friends after returning home. When he did not return even late into the night, his brother Praveen, an autorickshaw driver, filed a missing person’s complaint with the police. According to preliminary investigations, the four accused had gone to Abhishek’s house on Monday evening and taken him along with them to Hanumagiri Betta. They forced him to join them for a swim in a nearby pond, but he refused. They then picked up a fight with Abhishek and allegedly stabbed him in the abdomen, neck, chest and head. They fled, leaving Abhishek to die.
The police suspect that the murder could have been planned by the four boys as Abhishek had allegedly beaten them on Monday afternoon. His sister Bhayva, a sixth standard student, said Abhishek went out to play with his friends around 5.30 pm after coming back home from his exam. When he did not return, the family searched for him in the area and also called up his aunt in Mysore to check whether the boy had gone there. When the body was found on Tuesday morning and Ahishek’s mother, Lakshmamma, a housemaid, heard about the horrific incident, she fell unconscious. She was treated at a hospital.
Abhishek was a resident of Kuvempunagar 12th Cross in Ittamadu.
