Funds to maths is okay, says Shettar
Strongly defending the allotment of funds to various maths in the state, Chief Minister, Jagadish Shettar on Sunday asserted that it was the primary duty of any government to provide financial assistance to maths to build a stronger society in the days to come. Participating in a Guruvandana programme organised at Kambalu Math in Nelamangala on the outskirts of the city, Mr Shettar said: “Traditionally, religious maths have played a pivotal role in improving the literacy rate in the state and have taken up the responsibility of feeding poor students at various levels. This has improved the quality of life of the poor and also contributed to the state's growth.”
Slamming Opposition parties, the Chief Minister said various ruling parties had in the past had extended patronage to various maths but when the same practice was continued by the BJP, the opposition parties were criticising it for ‘favouring’ a particular community. "We have never ignored any religious math. Be they of the Veershaivas or OBCs, the party had provided assistance to one and all," he explained.
Mr Shettar also said the government was contemplating promoting tourism extensively on the lines of what the Goa government was doing. “We are blessed with a long coastline and several beautiful beaches. These need to be exploited to attract more tourists. Our focus is not only on leisure tourism but also on promoting religious tourist destinations,” he said.
