Garbage finally cleared in city
After a long gap, the city was cleared of garbage on Friday. It was either because of the severe criticism by the Karnataka High Court, or the BBMP workers were extra diligent, knowing that Mayor D. Venkatesh Murthy and Palike commissioner Rajneesh Goel would go on rounds across the city.
Mr Goel also claimed that the number of complaints against unattended garbage from across the city has come down to just five after the BBMP cracked its whip against the workers and garbage contractors.
“I have told the officials that garbage should be cleared immediately. The instructions have been followed, and this will continue. We hope that the city will be free of garbage and stench soon,” he said.
On the move to prevent dumping of garbage in vacant sites, he said, “We have allotted property identity numbers to all vacant plots.
Soon we will issue notices to them, and ask them to construct compound walls or take other measures to ensure that garbage is not dumped in their sites.
After issuing the notices, we will give them a grace period of 15 days. If the owners fail to abide by the instructions, they will have to pay the BBMP to clear garbage from their plots.”
The mayor and commissioner took the media for an inspection of areas like Padarayanapura, RPC Layout, Girinagar and Yediyur. They are planning to visit other zones on Saturday.
