Guard foils dacoity bid, pays with life
A 45-year-old security guard at a finance company, was bludgeoned to death when he tried to stop a gang of dacoits attempting to loot a neighbouring jewellery store.
The deceased was identified as Tanaji Patil, a resident of Vajarahalli on Kanakapura Road in Talaghattapura. The accused killed him by smashing his head with an iron rod and dumped the body in a ditch close by, Talaghattapura police said.
The incident is suspected to have occurred early on Thursday. Patil, a native of Belgaum, was working as a security guard at Muthoot Fincorp Limited for the last one year. While on duty, he noticed a gang of dacoits attempting to break into the neighbouring Malalakshmi Jewellery and Pawn Brokers shop at Bainapalya in Vajarahalli.
Patil went near the shop and questioned the dacoits and tried to stop them when they were attempting to break open the doors. In a fit of rage, the dacoits murdered him by hitting him on the head with an iron rod, and fled the scene, police said.
Shobha, the wife of the deceased, has filed a complaint. The incident came to light on Thursday morning after passersby found the blood-soaked body in the ditch, police added.
