The Global Investors’ Meet (GIM), scheduled to be held next month, will focus mainly on the high-speed rail project and fast-lane roads. Revealing this to the reporters here on Friday, Industries minister Mr Murugesh Nirani said the two projects will be fast-tracked after the GIM.

In an effort to give a boost to the ambitious plans, the State government has decided to invite Dr Diazo Nozawa, former Japanese minister, who is acknowledged as the father of the bullet train, as chief guest for GIM. After the GIM inauguration, Dr Diazo would give a one-hour lecture on hi-speed train technology during the technical session, Mr Nirani said.

In the first phase, the government plans to extend hi-speed train service between Chennai and Bengaluru to Mysore. The other services include hi-speed train between Hubli-Belgaum.

In the second phase, the government is planning a hi-speed train service between Bengaluru and Hubli and Bengaluru-Gulbarga. “We have asked the technical team to submit a detailed project report on hi-speed rail before December so that the project can start from next year.

A conservative estimation puts cost of construction to Rs 200 crore per km. However, when it comes to large-scale implementation of the project, the cost could reduce to Rs 150 crore per km”, he said.

Apart from hi-speed trains, the government was looking for port-connectivity between Bengaluru and Mangalore by constructing a tunnel between Sakleshpur and Shiradi, he said.

There are also plans to construct integrated industrial and residential township along Bengaluru-Mangalore highway. Besides, a ring road around Bengaluru will be constructed with assistance from Japan Infrastructure Construction Company, he said.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
