I will not lobby for BJP state chief post, says BSY
Former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa appeared stoical on his chances of becoming state BJP president saying there was no need for anyone to lobby on his behalf with the party top brass.
Speaking to reporters after a public meeting at his office at Malleshwaram on Thursday, BSY said it was upto the central leadership to make the appointment. “I will not pressurise anyone for the post”, he added. Earlier reports had suggested that BSY and his associate turned rival, D.V. Sadananda Gowda were involved in a fierce race for the party chief’s post as the appointee is likely to play a crucial role in ticket distribution in the 2013 polls.
The Lingayat strongman announced that he plans to undertake another tour of drought affected districts from September 10. “This time, I will visit 25 taluks and hoblis”, he said. He tried his best to defend the state government’s handling of the drought situation saying they were doing their best. He reserved his barbs for the Centre for not releasing adequate grants to tackle the drought. After meeting Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar at Krishna, his home office, Mr Yeddyurappa held separate meetings with his loyalist ministers and MLAs at his Dollars Colony residence to chalk out the strategy for the second leg of his tour.
