Kiran cracks the whip on colleges over hike in fees
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Saturday threatened engineering colleges with raids to make their managements toe the government’s line regarding fee hike and fee reimbursement issues. Armed with the recent ordinances passed by the Governor, orders were issued to immediately constitute a high-level committee to raid colleges and inspect whether they were functioning as per the norms prescribed by AICTE and the state government.
Senior IAS officer S.K. Sinha, IPS officer Umesh Shroff, principal secretary of higher education M.G. Gopal and commissioner of technical education Ajay Jain were appointed as members of the committee. The panel was constituted in the backdrop of the two ordinances issued by the Governor according po-wers to the state governm-ent to inspect colleges and cancel permissions in case of any violations of norms.
The CM directed the panel members to inspect the academic standards existi-ng in every college district-wise and recommend strict action to the Admissions and Fee Regulatory Committee in case of any lapses. The panel will be empowered to appoint task forces and carry out raids to verify if the fee hike demanded by the colleges was “justifiable” and if they had the required faculty and infrastructure as per norms.
