KPCC chief, Siddaramaiah to lead charge
Union labour minister Mallikarjun Kharge who has been watching the bickering in the state Congress from the sidelines, on Monday appealed to top leaders to shun their differences and said Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Dr G. Parameshwar and Leader of the opposition, Siddaramaiah will jointly lead the party in the 2013 Assembly polls.
Speaking to reporters after paying tribute to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 95th birth anniversary, Mr Kharge said: “The greater challenge before us is to bring the Congress to power and not who should lead the party or who should become chief minister. In our party everything is decided by central leaders and none of us can object to their decisions. Therefore, there is no need to create any confusion among party workers.”
Responding to a question on what the party will do with both Mr Siddaramaiah and Dr Parameshwar maintaining they are CM aspirants, Mr Kharge said there was nothing wrong in expressing such aspirations but in the Congress, these statements were considered ‘personal opinions.’ “Every politician has such dreams. For a politician, this works like a tonic and encourages him to work with zeal and enthusiasm," he said.
The veteran leader who has served as KPCC president, saw a bright chance of the Congress coming to power in the next polls and stressed the need for leaders to put aside differences and work unitedly.
KPCC president Dr G. Parameshwar said the party will not have a pre-poll alliance with any party in the forthcoming Assembly polls. "Our leaders and party workers should realise that the Congress can come to power on its own and does not need any other party's support. Those who are mooting tie-ups with smaller parties, should put an end to such thoughts,” he stressed.
