KSRTC bus runs over 18-year-old

An 18-year-old student died on the spot after a KSRTC bus knocked him off his two-wheeler near Makkala Koota circle in Chamarajpet on Wednesday morning. The deceased, Mohammed Adeeq Ahmed, son of Mr. Zaheer Ahmed and a resident of Vijayanagar Pipeline Road, had appeared for second PU exams and was awaiting results.

The police said the accident took place around 7.30 am when the bus coming from Kalasipalya ran over him. Adeeq was not wearing a helmet and the police suspect that he would have applied sudden brakes after he spotted the bus on the main road. Adeeq’s cousin Saif Ali Khan said, “Adeeq was heading for the CET coaching. He was getting late, and he took my bike to go to the institute. I feel that the bus driver might have been driving fast speed and did not notice Adeeq at the junction, leading to the accident.” He also said Adeeq did not have a driver’s licence, but was carrying a learner’s licence.

The Chamrajpet traffic police registered a case and took the bus driver, Chinnagiri Gowda, into custody. This accident proves how teenagers, barely eligible to ride vehicles on their own, go around the city without valid licences and end up victims of road accidents. The traffic police said students ride vehicles especially in the morning hours when they go for coaching classes. Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) M.A. Saleem said, “Traffic violations are high in the morning hours. Usually youngsters, who have to go for tuitions in the morning, do not wear helmet and most of them do not posses driving licences too. To bring down traffic violations, especially in mornings, we are conducting special drives at prominent places, so that youngsters do not take traffic violations for granted.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
