‘Kurubas can seek CM post for Siddu’
Opposition leader Siddaramaiah’s plan to demonstrate his strength by holding a Kuruba community convention has left several bigwigs in the state Congress concerned. However, they would not like to admit in public that it is a politically incorrect move in a state scheduled to go to the polls in a year from now.
Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Dr G. Parameshwar told Deccan Chronicle that there was nothing wrong in Kuruba leaders holding rallies. “There is nothing inappropriate in Kurubas demanding the chief minister’s post for Mr Siddaramaiah,” he said while replying to a question. “Every community has the right to express its aspirations, what’s wrong in that. We have to acknowledge their aspirations,” he said.
The Congress will not treat the Kuruba community rally as a political move of Mr Siddaramaiah to exert pressure on the party to make him chief minister if the party comes to power, he said adding, “We do not consider this anti-party activity or a political act. So the question of taking action does not arise,” he said.
Will the party make an exception for Karnataka and project a CM candidate before the election? “Party central leaders will take a decision on this issue. I don’t think the party will make an exception for Karnataka,” said Dr Parameshwar. The KPCC president strongly denied reports that he had differences with Siddaramaiah. “This is a media creation”, he said and also denied reports that Siddaramaiah had opposed the unilateral announcement of Congressige Banni Badalavane Tanni.
All leaders were involved in the formulation of the programme and there was no confusion, he said.
