Lawyers sore with CJ for ‘inaction’, want him out
The Advocates’ Association of Bangalore (ABB) has passed a resolution to press for Chief Justice Vikramjit Sen’s transfer for his ‘inaction’ over the alleged attack on advocates on March 2 at the City Civil Courts complex. The Association has also decided to boycott proceedings at Court hall-1 on June 12 as a symbolic protest.
In a petition, the Association had sought a CBI inquiry into the violence at the City Civil Courts Complex. The court constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by former CBI director R.K. Raghavan to probe the violence. The Association has now passed a resolution to file a special leave petition (SLP) before the Supreme Court against the High Court order and press for a CBI inquiry into the March 2 violence.
“The Chief Justice has failed to take appropriate action over the brutal attack on advocates by media personnel and policemen on March 2. Hence, it was decided to request the Chief Justice of India and senior judges of the Supreme Court (collegium) to transfer the Karnataka High Court Chief Justice. It was also decided to stay away from the proceedings at the Chief Justice’s court hall on June 12,’’ the official letter from the Association said. The Association resolution, passed on June 6, seeks to pressure the State government to take action against police officials named in the interim report submitted by the then DGP-CID Rupak Kumar Dutta. The Association has also pressed for the transfer of Registrar General and Vigilance chief as they allegedly failed to keep a check on rampant corruption.
