Lokayukta cops raid woman corporator, recover Rs 1.3 crore
The Lokayukta police raided Mudalapalya corporator Shantakumari and seized incriminating documents on Friday. The police recovered Rs 20 lakh in cash and other documents, worth nearly Rs 1.3 crore, from her residence and office. The police said Jayarama M. of Mallathahalli had lodged a complaint with the Upalokayukta, alleging that Ms Shantakumari had amassed wealth disproportionate to her known sources of income. The Upalokayukta directed the police to investigate the case and an FIR was registered.
The Lokayukta police obtained warrants to search houses and offices of Ms Shantakumari and her relatives Gopal and Mohan. Her house in Byraveshwaranagar was raided and assets of Rs 1.29 crore recovered. The police seized several land documents from her and relatives. Cops also recovered gold jewellery worth Rs 17 lakh and 17 passbooks which are still being verified. A senior police officer said the bank accounts will be verified on Saturday.
