Lokayukta police arrest JD(S) leader
The Lokayukta police have arrested JD (S) leader Panchalingaiah, who had lost the Assembly elections from Yeshwanthapur, on charges of claiming compensation by producing forged documents.
Three private complaints were filed against Panchalingaiah before the Lokayukta special court by one Sadananda Swamy.
The Lokayukta police produced Panchalingaiah before the Lokayukta special court on Friday evening. The complaint stated that when BDA issued the final notification for acquisition of land for creation of Banashankari 6th stage layout, Panchalingaiah filed objections to this. He claimed that 1 acre of land at Hemmigepura in Kengeri hobli was a government grant in 1978.
When his objection was set aside, the accused received Rs 6 lakh and a 60X40 site as compensation. The police investigation revealed that his wife, who Panchalingaiah claimed got the grant of land from the government, was only 14 years old in 1978.
The final award was received in 2000. Further investigation revealed that all documents produced by Panchalingaiah were bogus. The Lokayukta court remanded the accused to judicial custody till June 8.
The other 2 complaints also allege similar offenses against Panchalingaiah pertaining to 2 different plots in Hemmigepura. In the second complaint, Panchalingaiah has allegedly forged documents for 4 acres of land and received compensation of Rs 24 lakh and 4 sites, while in the third complaint, he produced documents for 5 acres and got Rs 30 lakh and 5 sites as compensation.
The Lokayukta police said the investigation in these 2 cases is still on.
